• Invincible (Season 2) | Prime Video | 11.3.23

Amazon is really on to something with this superhero stuff. Especially with all this information coming out from Marvel Studios. There was the Variety Report, that book that came out and another hit piece. I’m not commenting on whether or not, they just deserve it. It’s just clear that Phase 4 did not work at all. Prime has been doing their thing on the complete opposite end of the spectrum.

Obviously, when you create a counter brand that parodies the shortcomings of another brand, it gives you a leg up. But watching the season finale of Gen V and the season 2 premiere of Invincible felt… special. Way different than the feeling that the upcoming Marvels film is making me feel.

• Monarch: Legacy of Monsters | AppleTV+ | 11.17.23

Okay, so the only thing that this show and Rings of Power have in common is that a shit ton of money were spent on them by relatively new production companies. Those being Amazon and AppleTV. For me, what that they have most in common is that it feels like they seemingly came out of nowhere. Which, they didn’t. People knew for years that these monstrous budget shows were coming but still, the marketing strategy, the rollout all feels new. It feels like if you aren’t on youtube on a daily basis, you could live a peaceful life not ever knowing of their existence. I’m not comparing the shows in any other nature. Just tying them together to express the feeling of them being new, different and something that we’re not really used to.

TLDR: Who the hell would have predicted a show like this existing 10 years ago?! I guess we do live in a world where we are getting a Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter movie.

Absolutely brilliant. I mean, we all knew that. But wow, Raimi is a beast. When I think of why the Raimi trilogy is soo good, the word HORROR usually doesn’t come to mind. There are genuinely terrifying moments in this film though. Multiple moments, not just one. The scene where Doc Ock is being operated on by doctors and nurses after his experiment failed and his tentacles have been attached is a true piece of terror. The weapons, the shadows, the screaming, the suspense. The nurses nails’ as she tries to hold on to the ground for dear life. What a spectacle. Unfortunately, it also puts a spotlight on No Way Home and how it was much more of a nostalgia grab,rather than a revisit of what made the originals stand out. Still love it. But duh, I’m obsessed. How could I not?

So turns out, Echo has now been pushed back to January. I assumed that decision was mostly because of the WGA/SAG strikes. Then, we also found that all the episodes were being released in a Netflix Dump format, which in the MCU, I believe has only happened for the I AM GROOT shows. The ongoing online discussion has been that maybe all of the decisions have been made because the show isn’t very good. But with the trailer release and the announcement that it’s rating will be TV-MA, my hopes are officially up.

Only dawned on me when I got to the very end of this album that I had never heard Boy’s A Liar pt. 2, which also means that I had never heard one of her songs in full. Only listened to the album after watching the Zane Lowe interview though so it definitely biased me. Glad I did though.

Honestly, it’s a PERFECT album to get work done to.
